====== CZC PRESIDENTS Message: A BRIEF RECAP OF 2010 AND GENERAL 2011 PLANS ======
Well, for a group that felt like we were going into hiatus for 2010, we certainly ended up with a year full of fun Cajun and Zydeco happenings!
We started out the year partnering up with Lowe Mill and The Flying Monkey to put on a spring Zydeco dance with Curly Taylor and Zydeco Trouble at Lowe Mill (moved indoors to Flying Monkey because of rain). The turnout was great and it was also great to see a lot of new faces. In the summer, longtime CZC member Naomi Ashworth hosted her annual Shrimp Boil/CD Dance, which has long been one of the most popular CZ events of the year. We had a good turnout and great food and dancing! Thanks to everyone who helped put this event on! In the Fall, we had a very big turnout (approx 250 people) for the reigning queen of Zydeco, Rosie Ledet, at Lowe Mill. Everyone always enjoys Rosie and thanks to the concert being part of the Lowe Mill Concerts at the Docks series (and thanks to CZC sponsors who helped fund the event) admission was free (and thats hard to beat!). Finally, we closed out our live concerts for the year with our Halloween dance, bringing Huntsville favorite Lil Malcolm and The Houserockers to Lowe Mill. The turnout for this dance was so good, we even broke even (yay!) and everyone enjoyed the great Halloween costumes. The Lowe Mill and Flying Monkey venues were a big hit last year and we look forward to continuing to work with them to put on more dances in the future!
Special thanks go out to the current board CZC Board - Steve, Rebecca, & Chuck for leading us through this transitional year, and for the support from Martin on the newsletter, Hal for DJing and organizing and hosting the important free Sunday dance lessons at the Eagles Lodge, to our wonderful anonymous donor for providing the seed money that kept CZC going financially and to Margaret for her help on the website and email list. Also, of course, thanks very much also to all of our CZC members for their continuing support of Cajun and Zydeco music in Huntsville!
Due to the above mentioned support from our members (some of whom were especially generous last year), we will be continuing CZC in 2011 and hopefully much beyond. Our planned schedule includes around 4-5 major events this year. Our first planned event of 2011 will be the Tardi Gras dance with Zydeco-T at the Flying Monkey shortly after Mardi Gras. We are also definitely planning to continue the very popular Shrimp Boil. Margaret has graciously offered to host the event at her farm if Naomis move to Louisiana is successful.
Of course, as always, CZCs continuing success depends on the support of its members. Please become a CZC member or renew your membership for 2011 as above all, we are a membership driven organization that wants to promote the enjoyment of dance and fellowship. You can make your $30 membership checks out to CZC and mail them to me @ 270 Pineridge Road Madison, Al 35758, or give them to one of the Board members at any of our dances. Also, please let any of the current board know if you want to serve on the board, or would like to help setup for a dance, or to host a dance. We also have special needs for a newsletter editor, for someone to handle publicity, and a Treasurer. Remember, your support is the only way we can keep Cajun and Zydeco music in Huntsville!
Thanks again, and see you on the dance floor!!!!!
